Campkin’s RV Centre – January 2012
Campkin’s RV Centre, an RV Dealer in southern Ontario Canada, reports a very strong “Fall Selling Season” and attributes it to “Overwhelming Internet Traffic”. 2011 was the companies very best year since it started in 1973.
Campkin’s RV uses a combination of Search Engine Optimization and Marketing Techniques.
The most important has been putting ALL of their New and Used RV’s on the Website with detailed description and lots of pictures. “Our SEO partner, Synergy Pro Solutions, have made sure each page and each picture etc is picked up by Google and all the search engines.”
Campkin’s RV website traffic surpassed the one million inventory hits for the very first time. “Going from approximately 350,000 in 2010 to over a million in 2011 definitely has kept our sales department much busier, we’ve even had to hire two more sales people to keep up” says Owner and Sales Manager Brad Campkin.
Campkin says they have a very high conversion rate from web surfers to onsite viewing appointments, “We track each contact made from our website and we see just under 50% of our calls and emails from the website convert to a visit at the dealership!” Campkin also says having the SELLING PRICE on the website, not “Call for Price” or “fill out a form to get the price” has made a huge difference. “People come in knowing their price range and are all set to look at the RV they saw online” he says.
New this past year, Campkin’s launched theirs and Canada’s first, RV Parts and Accessory Store. Many RV s stores are really a link to a third party supplier’s online catalogue. Campkin’s RV has created an RV Parts store that lists the actual inventory in their Accessory Showroom. “We have made it easy for our customers to shop online, again making our Website our most important marketing all year long” says Campkin.
We have also created a Mobile Website for all the Smart-phones. “When our customers are on the go…and they are in their RV’s, they can access our Parts and Accessory store right from their smart-phone, plus shopping for a new RV is easy as every RV in stock is accessible from our mobile website.
Last but not least Campkin’s RV Centre has an iTunes App that is really taking off. Brad says “We are getting a lot of subscribers to our iTunes App and we send ‘push notifications’ that alert our followers to news and events happening at the dealership.”
You can follow Campkin’s RV on Twitter and Facebook as well, the links are on their website www.campkins.com
Campkin’s RV Centre is in Myrtle Station, North Whitby, Ontario Canada. And have served the southern Ontario RV market since 1973, offering full year round service, RV Accessory showroom and the top selling brands of towable RV’s in North America. Campkin’s RV is a member of the RV Care Network a Canada wide Dealer Network that looks after customers that travel across Canada.

Well the first thing is that with all the new smartphones and tablets we had to make it easier to use on all platforms, so now wether you are using a iPad or a Playbook our mobile website works great!

Also we have added the Online RV Accessory store to our mobile application. What makes our Online RV Accessory Store so unique is that unlike other RV Dealers, Campkin’s Online RV Accessory is not a ‘third party’ link.

When you come to our store you are dealing directly with Campkin’s in Myrtle Station! You can peruse our store when your sitting on the GO Train, or waiting in the Dentist office!

We also have embraced the new QR Code technology that allow our customers to ‘Scan’ with their smartphone and get more information on our RV’s for sale.

If you have dropped by our store on Hwy#12 in Myrtle Stn, you may have noticed that we print off all of our Inventory Sheets, post them in the front window (for after hours and Sunday customers) and you can scan the Qr Code and take home all the info you need to research the products.

At campkin’s RV we are constantly working to make your RV Shopping experience the very best.

Ok this might sound crazy but since 1973 I’ve been involved in serving customers who want…no, NEED RV service.

Why is it as an industry we still seem to make it tough for our customers to get hassle free service?

Well I think I know a couple of reasons….

Seasonality: from staffing to crazy rushes of customers we constantly battle the crazy swing of supply and demand. Often if just one employee calls in sick a whole weeks service schedule gets messed up and if course the customer who was promised a pickup date is let down, bad service, right?

Technical support: we are the professionals. We should know how to fix an RV. With all the electronics, the new designs, new construction methods and materials and not to mention hi tech appliances often we are put in the position of having to ‘learn’ how to diagnose and repair an RV for the very first time while under time pressure, calling factories and/or tech lines. Bad service, right?

Scheduling: 9 techs, 7 service bays, 2 parts people, 1 parking lot. Only 8 hours in a day! Long weekend coming up…trying to co-ordinate 8′ to 40′ RV’s into service bays at the right time with the right parts. One part is wrong, could be anyone’s fault, doesn’t matter, have to re-schedule. Bad service, right?

I don’t want to sound negative, what I want to say is even if every person in a parts and service dept does everything right there are external forces that sometimes come into play that can make the hardest working staff member look bad.

We constantly talk about what we do have control over and how we can improve by looking inward and improving our methods and processes.

I am very proud when I hear one of our staff say “your right, we could have and should have done better. We are truly sorry we let you down. Will you allow us another chance to make it right?”

We always own our actions, we can and do offer the very best service and effort everday, no matter what challenges are thrown our way.

And we are very lucky to have 38 years worth of loyal customers who understand and appreciate our committment to them.

Have you ever wondered what happens to the RV market once the snow melts? Well its pretty amazing.
It reminds of the restaurant business…everyone shows up at 6:00 pm and wonders why the cook can’t prepare 100′s of meals perfectly and deliver MY plate to MY table exactly as I orderd!

Help!

In the RV business every customer who bought last fall and said “Please store it till spring and I’ll pick it up then.” Then every customer who bought at the fall show, the January show and the February show says “I want it before May 2-4 weekend!”

You get the idea….it gets crazy.

Now for the good news, it’s still early, we have a huge selection from folding campers, light weight travel trailers and a full range of fifth wheels and they have all been bought from our manufacturers at low off season prices.

That price has been reflected in our Industry leading Online Pricing Policy. We list our Best price that allows us to stay in business and look after our customers to the level they deserve and expect!

We believe so strongly in this policy that we have posted every RV in our front window with pricing (and QR Code for quick smartphone scanning) so that every customer, wether they find our price online or not will know exactly what they are looking at.

So to summerize, if you know what you want and you want to get the best selection at the best price and get it for the first long weekend this spring, now is probably the best time to come and see us.

Please take a few minutes and let me know if you agree or disagree with my blog,

Brad Campkin, Owner and Sales manager says “We are participating in 3 Spring RV shows this year, the January Toronto RV Show at the Toronto Congress Centre run by the ORVDA (which just took place) and then in February we will be in the Toronto International RV Show at the International Trade Centre. We have also booked space in the Toronto Sportsmen Show.”

RV Shows are a great way for consumers to see what’s new as well as to research the different types of RV’s.

Campkin’s RV has had great success showing the new ‘light weight’ campers that can be towed behind the smallest of cars. The Prolite trailer can weigh as little as 750 lbs. and the Coachmen Clipper Express ‘tent trailer’ weighs only 455 lbs.

Another RV Show hit has been the full size towable trailers and fifth wheels with bunk beds. Young families as well as grandparents are looking for campers that can sleep the whole family comfortably.

Campkin says: “We have taken the approach that if we show our products at large indoor RV Shows our customers can start researching and learning more about what type of RV would suit them best. The best customers know what they want and need before they buy, we can help them over the next few months get ready for a great camping season and we can arrange everything they may need like hitch equipment, extra bike racks, demonstration of the RV all before the camping season starts.

Campkin’s RV Centre has been providing quality products, service and parts and accessories to Ontario RV’ers since 1973. Taking full advantage of the World Wide Web Campkin’s lists all of its products online, has an online parts and accessory store and has a mobile website as well as an iTunes App.

New this year Campkin’s RV Centre has added QR Code, a bar code for smart phones, to every print ad and on all RV’s on display both in the RV Shows and on their sales lot.

Well it’s that time of year again when all the RV Dealers haul their New Campers, Trailers, Fifth Wheels and Motorhomes to the RV Show!

It’s a great time to see whats new, compare to what you have now and in a lot of cases make the decision to buy the RV of your Dreams. You may have been looking forward to this day for a long time if retirement is in your plans or maybe it’s just time to upgrade from tents and loaners to a camper of your own.

In any case make sure you have done your homework, there are many choices from what Dealer to buy from, to what Brand and RV type will best suit your needs.

Here’s my checklist of what to look for:

1) Towing or not towing? motorhome vs towable
2) Going to use it once a year or every weekend? size, towability, invenstment?
3) Floorplan, floorplan, floorplan – buy the wrong one and we’ll see you sooner than later to change trailers!
4) Brand, Manufacturer – look for the parent company, many Brands are just a division of a larger company therefore you have peace of mind that they will be around to cover warranty and parts after warranty
5) The Dealer – ask your self… Who are they? What’s their reputation? Do they have a fair pricing policy?

Bottom line, do your research and ask lots of questions, we want you to get the right camper the first time, my Dad always said “We make a living because people buy the wrong trailer and they need to change it!”

Call any time and ask for Brad Campkin,

38 years in the the RV business in Southern Ontario

I get asked this question a lot and I always smile and say NOW! but all kidding aside when is the best time to buy?

If pricing is the issue then consider this, the dealers and the manufacturers are under the most pressure to replace existing inventory as the new model year products are being built.

The best inventory (best floor plan, best colour, best weight?) usually goes first, at the very end of the season what ever is left over is usually the least popular.

So when is the best time to buy an RV? I would say when you know what you want, when your ready financially and when the product you want is priced to sell.

In my opinion that would be July or August.

Also remember your trade-in (if you have one) will not go up in price. It’s worth the most right now…and will go down the longer you wait.

Hope this helps,
